Strawberry Fields Forever

One summer staple is picking strawberries at Heartland Farms. The entire trip, including the drive, never takes longer than an hour, but it always stands out as one of our favorite things to do in the summer.

With Charly in gymnastics full swing, this year the jumping pillow was as popular as the strawberries. While Hayes tried keeping his balance, Charly loved showing us her moves!

Dad like showing his moves too.

Swinging For The Fences

On Father's Day, we took the kids to a baseball diamond behind the UNI-Dome. Charly and Hayes had a blast! I think we found a new kind of park to take them to!

Gone Fishing

Last week we went fishing. For minnows. Without a pole. Just a bug-catcher. Charly dug right in but it took Hayes awhile to get over the dirty feeling. Once he was, we couldn't get him out of the sand!

When we got home, Charly stepped on a toothpick. It was traumatizing for all of us. Kelli didn't trust just taking her to the ER and I couldn't get it out with a tweezers (plus I seemed to be causing her more pain attempting). Our pediatrician was kind enough to drop everything and fit us in. We rushed her to the hospital and our pediatrician couldn't get it out either! He had to call a podiatrist. On a Friday.

Of course he was out of town so his resident was going to come take a look. Three hours later, a Zac Efron-look alike walked in and Charly was all smiles. He performed a minor procedure (which involved giving her three shots) to get the toothpick out (which ended up being close to half of a toothpick) and bandaged her little foot up. He was awesome with Charly, as was our nurse and doctor. Charly was a trooper. She cried a lot but never once flinched her foot or leg all the while people were operating on her. Everyone marveled at how strong and brave she was.

She walked out of that office with more suckers and stickers than any child could ever need!
