We made it to our cottage just in time before another blast of rain came into Kure Beach. The kids napped while Kelli and I worried that our days in Kure would be drowned out by rain. We were in the midst of a flash flood warning and rain was filling up the street outside our cottage. On top of it all, the weather looked cloudy with a chance of rain every day we were scheduled to be in North Carolina.
The Twins v. Rangers game was on FOX so we waited out the rain and talked about dinner plans. After an hour or so, the pounding of rain on our roof subsided and we pulled up the blinds on the window to find some sun peeking out from behind the clouds. The kids woke up and we wandered outside to explore the beach just outside our front door.
The beach scene at dusk made us forget all about the rain we had just experienced. Other vacationers were coming out to explore too and the same peaceful feeling we were experiencing was evident on their faces as well. Little did we know it at that time, but this beach would be our home for the next few days. Once Charly and Hayes laid their eyes on it (and once the weather decided to cooperate), it was hard to talk them into doing anything else! They were obsessed with the sand, the shells, the waves, everything!
